Zulu Translation Services: Professional and Reliable
Several languages are spoken in South Africa, and the country has made a whopping 11 languages official. Different languages dominate different regions of the country, and in the state of KwaZulu-Natal, the dominant language is Zulu—or isiZulu, as it’s known locally. More than 12 million people speak Zulu as a native language—and around 16 million as second-language speakers—many of whom are concentrated in KwaZulu-Natal.
As a BRICS nation, South Africa is rapidly developing its economy and stretching out into the international market. It boasts both one of the largest economies in Africa and one of the highest per-capita GDPs on the continent. So, if you’re looking to expand your business into Africa, South Africa is a key nation to target. If you’re moving into southeastern South Africa—or if you’re a local business moving outward—the Zulu translators at ProofreadingServices.com can help you with professional translation services.

What Translating Zulu Entails
The language of around 75% of KwaZulu-Natal, Zulu is a Bantu language similar to nearby Xhosa, Sotho, and Shona. It’s the second-most widely spoken Bantu language, with Swahili coming in first. Like all Bantu languages, Zulu has a large number of noun classes—16, in fact. These noun classes govern relative pronouns and the agreement markers used on almost all other parts of speech, including adjectives and verbs. Nouns may, however, forego the noun class marker, which can indicate indefiniteness and other grammatical information.
Zulu is highly agglutinative, adding affixes (often prefixes) to nouns and verbs to increase meaning. Locative, possessive, and even copulative prefixes can be added to nouns, which can result in full sentences consisting only of a noun. But Zulu verbs are certainly also complex. Verbs in Zulu can grow quite long due to the numerous affixes attached to them, including markers for the subject, object, tense, negation, aspect, and mood. The subject and object markers depend on the classes of the respective nouns, which allows for more precise meaning but can be difficult to translate. Indeed, translators require extensive experience and special expertise to reliably craft Zulu translations. At ProofreadingServices.com, our Zulu translators are carefully trained and prepared to tackle the challenges of Zulu translation.
